Reality Checks🏉-NFL Week 1- 09/11/23
Well the first week of the NFL concludes tonight with Bills at the Jets to cap off a surprising, if not telling, first act.
It's hard to figure which so far was the more shocking outcome of the football week given the contenders:
The Detroit Lions set it off from the very beginning and announced their arrival into the contenders, by upsetting the reigning champion and Superbowl favorite K.C. Chiefs on Thursday night football 21-20 in Kansas City, Kelce or no Kelce, Jones or no Jones!!
The Cleveland Browns continued their recent dominance in the battle of Ohio against the expected-to-contend Cincinnati Bengals 24-3, while rendering the vaunted Bengals offense and newly crowned highest paid player in the NFL Joe Burrow, both anemic.... The Browns newly tooled and newly coached defense looked much improved, even without starting safety Juan Thornhill(calf injury) albeit it after only one game.
The worst-team-in-the-NFL candidate T.B. Buccaneers looked anything but, in their road victory at the who-the-hell-can-figure-them-out Minnesota Vikings 20-17, after a disastrous performance by QB Kirk Cousins who had 3 turnovers and was thus outplayed by new Buccaneer's QB and Tom Brady replacement(joking of course) Baker Mayfield!
Another worst-team-in-the-NFL candidate team, the L.A. Rams got a dominating road victory in Seattle against the heavily favored Seahawks 30-13 against all expectations without All-Pro WR Cooper Kupp who was put on I.R. with a hamstring injury and will miss at least the first 4 games of the season.
Lastly the Dallas Cowboys throttled the hapless N.Y. Giants on Sunday night football a whopping 40-0!!!! Yes that is FORTY TO NOTHING!!!! The Giants looked like a hish school team playing against an NFL team and were quite embarrassing to themselves, their fans, the NFL schedule-makers, and to the NFL
Tonight we get the top tier Buffalo Bills going against the want-to-be top tier N.Y. Jets, who just may prove to be there tonight!
Tomorrow we'll check in with our fantasy football Reality Checks.
Until then........
